Oweek Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa launches the 2024 Rotary Cancer Run in Gayaza
As part of efforts to promote public health in Buganda, the Second Deputy Katikkiro, Oweek Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, urged people to get screened for cancer, emphasising the importance of early detection for better chances of recovery.
He stressed the need for public awareness about cancer, noting that early diagnosis can significantly improve survival rates.
Oweek Nsibirwa made these remarks while launching the 'Rotary Cancer Run' at the Gayaza event, which included eight branches of the Rotary Club.

The run is scheduled to take place on the 25th of this month, and Oweek Nsibirwa called on the public to participate in the event to raise funds for the construction of a cancer treatment centre at Nsambya Hospital to assist those affected by the disease.
During the launch, Oweek Nsibirwa led a group of Rotary members in a six-kilometre walk from Nakwero Grounds, symbolising a call for the Gayaza community to actively participate in the run.
Later, he also inaugurated a maternity wing at the People's Hospital, built by Rotary member Dr. Frank Ndugga, expressing his gratitude for establishing the hospital in Gayaza to improve access to quality healthcare services.

Kyaddondo County Chief, Oweek Hajj Magandaazi Matovu, praised the partnership between the Buganda Kingdom and Rotary, especially in promoting public health.
He also commended Dr. Ndugga for constructing the hospital, which he believes will greatly benefit the people of Kyaddondo and beyond.
