The Chairman of the Buganda Heritage & Tourism Board, Mr. Najib Nsubuga, at Mengo Palace holding the TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Awards trophy
This trophy, known as the TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Awards, is presented by the TripAdvisor platform, which guides travelers worldwide on how to plan their trips and choose the best destinations.
Mengo Palace has been included on the list of the top 10 most visited tourist destinations in the world for 2025 and has received this prestigious honor.
The destinations mentioned include: Mengo Palace, the Pyramids of Egypt, the Pyramids of Sudan, the Eiffel Tower in France, Big Ben in London, the River Nile, the Palace of Lisbon in Portugal, the Palace in Marrakesh, Morocco, and the Palace in Thailand.
Kristen Dalton, the Head of TripAdvisor, congratulated the Kingdom of Buganda on this achievement, saying it was largely based on tourists’ reviews and their appreciation of the warm reception they received when visiting the King’s Palace at Mengo.
While presenting the award to Buganda, the Chairman of the Buganda Heritage & Tourism Board, Mr. Najib Nsubuga, said that this achievement is rooted in the Kingdom’s rich history, the legacy of past kings, and the expertise and professionalism shown by tour guides.
Visitors experience Buganda’s heritage through stories about traditional crafts like bark cloth making, the board game omweso, cultural dances and games, and the hospitality of the Baganda in their homes. They are also shown significant sights such as the Rolls Royce car, historic tunnels, the Twekobe (the King’s residence), and many others.
Mr. Nsubuga added that this award means the Kingdom has gained even greater recognition worldwide. He said it encourages them to continue developing initiatives that take Buganda to greater heights while embracing technology to further promote tourism.
