Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga addressing the new Kisekwa Court Committee at Bulange, Mmengo

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has inaugurated a new committee to lead the Kisekwa Court at Bulange – Mmengo.

He encouraged clans to resolve their cultural disputes through traditional institutions rather than civil courts, which are not mandated to handle clan matters.

The new Kisekwa Court Committee is made up of seven members and is chaired by Dr. Robert Ssonko.

The Katikkiro expressed great confidence in the committee’s ability to fairly and swiftly resolve clan-related disputes, contributing to a more stable and organized Buganda. “When clans are organized, Buganda is stable,” he emphasized.

He thanked the members for volunteering their time to take on this vital responsibility, noting that strong clans are the backbone of a strong Buganda.

The Buganda Minister for Culture and Heritage, Anthony Wamala, urged the committee to be thorough in their investigations before passing judgment, promoting fairness and justice in all proceedings.

Dr. Robert Ssonko, on behalf of the committee, thanked the Kabaka for entrusting them with this role and pledged to fulfill their duties as expected.

Other committee members include Salim Makeera, Lubega Ssebende, Andrew Kibaya, Jamil Ssewanyana, Samwiri Walusimbi, and Dan Kyagaba.
