St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, UK, has honored the service of Mrs. Jennifer Muwonge, a Ugandan who serves as a volunteer in the cathedral and also reads scripture in Luganda every Sunday.

Mrs. Jennifer Muwonge was recognized for her work at St. Paul’s Cathedral, particularly for her efforts in ensuring that Luganda is also given prominence and read in the cathedral. This has also helped encourage Ugandans to engage more in worship through their native language.

The award she received, the "Marsh Charitable Trust Award," was given in recognition of her outstanding volunteer work. When receiving the award, Mrs. Jennifer Muwonge expressed great happiness at being recognized and emphasized that any work done with love, without expecting a reward, can make a difference in the community and beyond.

Luganda started being read in the cathedral in September 2024, and it became the first African language to be read regularly in the cathedral.

Jennifer Muwonge is the daughter of the late Samuel Wamala Muwonge. Samuel was one of the founding members of the Luganda Language Association, and at the time of his passing in 2022, he was part of the leadership team of the organization.
