Subjects of the Kabaka from Mawokota County received legal awareness training at a camp organized by the Buganda Kingdom through its legal arm, the Buganda Royal Law Chambers, held at the Butoolo County Headquarters.

The legal camp was centered around the theme: "Spreading the Gospel of the Law among the Kabaka’s People."

Buganda’s Attorney General, Owek. Christopher Bwanika, who led the training, emphasized that land-related issues remain the leading cause of community disputes and unrest.

“Land matters keep many people up at night. I urge you to pay more attention to your land rights and tenancy issues,” Bwanika advised.

He encouraged the people to utilize the Kabaka’s legal support initiative, the Buganda Royal Law Chambers, by reporting their disputes — especially those in the areas where they reside — to receive guidance from trained legal experts.

Bwanika assured attendees that the Kingdom will continue to monitor and follow up on these legal concerns to ensure that people better understand the laws governing their communities.

The County Chief of Mawokota, Owek. Sarah Nannono Kaweesi, briefed the Attorney General on widespread land conflicts in the area. She noted that many people acquire land titles on plots where others are already paying busuulu (ground rent), which leads to ongoing disputes.

Simon Syrus Ssebuliba, a lawyer from the Buganda Royal Law Chambers, said the Kingdom is committed to educating the Kabaka’s subjects on legal matters, especially those affecting their daily lives.

Several senior Kingdom officials were present, including Owek. Samuel Ssemugooma (Mugerere), Owek. Gertrude Ssebuggwawo (Coordinator of Kooki County Affairs), and Teddy Nambooze, the Woman Member of Parliament for Mpigi District.
