Hon. Christopher Bwanika, the Attorney General of the Buganda kingdom, ( middle ) while presenting the court judgement
Kimera sued the Attorney General (AG) and the Kabaka of Buganda as the respondents.
Hon. Christopher Bwanika, the Attorney General of the Buganda kingdom, presented the court's judgement yesterday in the case filed by Prince Kalemera Harold Kimera.
The lawsuit was against the Kabaka and the Attorney General of Uganda, alleging the taking of his property, including the Kabaka's Lake in Ndeeba and other land. Filed in 2020, the complaint targeted the 1993 Act, which provided for the restitution of property to the Kingdom and other traditional leadership in Uganda.
The Attorney General stated that various individuals are filing lawsuits against the Kingdom, emphasising that the Kingdom has expert lawyers and will not tolerate arbitrary lawsuits. Lawyer Dennis Bugaya from the Buganda Land Board explained that the court correctly and legally returned all the property to the Kabaka, and the Constitutional Appeal Court is not responsible for such matters.
As part of the ruling, the court ordered Prince Kalemera to compensate the Kabaka and the central government for all costs incurred in the case.
