The newly elected Bishop of Namirembe, Rev. Can Moses Bbanja, embarked on a significant visit to Bulange Mengo at the kingdom head office amid the preparations for his forthcoming inauguration as the 6th Bishop of Namirembe Diocese.
The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for December 10, 2023, at St Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe. Rev. Can Moses Bbanja is married to Rev. Canon Prof. Olivia Nassaka Bbanja, and they have been blessed with three children.
This transition follows the tenure of Rt. Rev. Wilberforce Kityo Luwalira, who served as the 5th Bishop for the past 15 years since his consecration in May 2009. During the visit to Bulange, the 2nd Deputy Chief Minister and Treasurer of the Buganda Kingdom, Hon. Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, emphasised the importance of strengthening the relationship between the Kingdom and the church to promote development in Buganda and the church.
Hon. Nsibirwa highlighted the historical ties between the Buganda Kingdom and the Anglican faith, expressing the Kingdom's commitment to supporting the new Bishop. He emphasised the inseparability of Buganda Kingdom from Namirembe Diocese, pledging assistance whenever needed for the betterment of both the church and the Kingdom.
In response, Bishop-elect Ven. Canon Moses Bbanja expressed hope and courage in serving the diocese. He affirmed the unity between Namirembe Diocese and Buganda Kingdom, stating their shared commitment to collaborating on matters related to leadership. He emphasized the determination to serve all Ugandans through the word of God with the support of the Buganda Kingdom.
The meeting was attended by notable figures, the Speaker of the Buganda Parliament, Hon. Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule, the Attorney General, Hon Christopher Bwanika, the Minister of Youth, Sports and Arts, Hon Robert Sserwanga Saalongo, the Minister of Information and Spokesperson, Hon Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, Minister Anthony Wamala, Minister of Welfare, Environment and Gender, Hajjat Mariam Nkalubo Mayanja, Minister of Human Development and Queen's Office Affairs, Cotilda Nakate Kikomeko, ED of Bicul Mr Roland Ssebufu, ED Buganda Land Board; Simon Kabogoza.
