The Queen’s Ball 2025, organised by Her Royal Highness Sylvia Nagginda, took place yesterday at the Speke Convention Center in Munyonyo.

The event brought together government ministers, cultural leaders, mental health professionals, and supporters of wellness initiatives to raise awareness and promote dialogue on mental health in Uganda.

In her keynote address, Queen Nagginda emphasized the importance of supporting individuals silently struggling with mental health conditions, saying:

“Many of our people are battling mental health challenges in silence. They fear to speak out — but when we stand together, we can give them hope and break the stigma.”

Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, the Prime Minister of Buganda, also spoke on the issue, highlighting common causes of mental health problems such as poverty, unemployment, loneliness, and unresolved emotional trauma:

“Mental health challenges often arise from difficult life circumstances — lack of income, isolation, or emotional betrayal. We must offer psychosocial support to prevent these issues from escalating into violence, crime, or despair.”

He expressed gratitude to the Queen and her team for their continued leadership in advocating for mental wellness across Uganda.
