Those who have prospered should write books to inspire others with their journeys of growth and development. Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has encouraged people to write books that reflect their heritage, ensuring its preservation and providing learning opportunities for future generations.

Katikkiro Mayiga delivered this message while launching a book authored by Owek. Hajji Hassan Mutaasa Kafeero in Nakwero, Kyaddondo, on Saturday. The book is titled "Mutaasa Kafeero: His Journey and Family History of the Abajungute."

Owek. Mayiga praised Mutaasa Kafeero for embracing his ancestral roots, especially honoring his forefather Adam Mutaasa, who served as a chief in Buganda, and for his dedication to cultural preservation amidst life’s challenges.

While launching the book, the Katikkiro commended Hajji Mutaasa Kafeero for fostering unity among Kabaka’s subjects in Ankole and upholding the traditions of his ancestors. He urged the wealthy and successful individuals to document their life journeys to inspire others, share developmental insights, and preserve their achievements for future generations.

He also appreciated Owek. Mutaasa Kafeero’s loyal service to the Kabaka, especially during the Ettofaali fundraising campaign across Buganda and beyond.

The event began with prayers led by Sheikh Zubair Sowedi Kayongo, the Wakiso District Khadhi, who prayed for Allah to bless Owek. Mutaasa Kafeero with greater achievements.

In his speech, Owek. Hajji Dr. Hassan Mutaasa Kafeero expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him during his illness and throughout his life’s journey. He acknowledged that surviving life’s challenges is a true miracle.

In his book, Owek. Mutaasa Kafeero details the journey of the Abajungute clan and their migration to Ankole. He emphasizes that despite living in Ankole, they remained Baganda, preserving Buganda’s customs and cultural practices, which are their roots.

The Supreme Mufti, Sheikh Shaban Ramathan Galabuzi, affirmed the importance of writing, noting that written works endure while spoken words are often forgotten. He thanked Owek. Mutaasa Kafeero for authoring a book that will be remembered, particularly for strengthening Buganda’s cultural heritage in the Kigezi region. He further stated that the book holds significant cultural and religious value as it preserves history for generations to come.

He also appreciated Mutaasa Kafeero’s ancestors who settled in Ankole but maintained their Baganda identity and Islamic faith, as well as Mutaasa Kafeero himself for promoting both Islam and Buganda’s heritage.

The Mufti highlighted that the book is a vital historical resource, touching on key events related to the legacy of Adam Mutaasa, who migrated to Ankole while upholding Buganda’s heritage and Islamic values.

Owek. Mutaasa noted that his grandfather greatly influenced the people of Ankole, teaching them Buganda’s customs, governance, and essential skills rooted in Buganda’s traditions.

He expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported him during challenging times, especially when he battled COVID-19.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Mutaasa’s daughter, Fatumah Nagawa, described her father as a loving parent who is deeply supportive of his children’s education and careers.

The event was attended by the Second Deputy Katikkiro, the Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko, various Kabaka’s ministers, clan leaders including Jjaja Mugema of the Nkima clan, members of the Kwagalana Group, Buganda Twezimbe Association, and other distinguished guests.
