Maama Nnaabagereka Sylvia Nagginda and Princess Katrina Sarah Ssangalyambogo arrived at Serena Hotel to participate in the celebrations marking the 47th anniversary of the renowned theater group, The Ebonies.
During the event, the Nnaabagereka presented an award to Owek. J.W. Katende. She praised him for his visionary leadership and determination, qualities that have sustained The Ebonies for an impressive 47 years.
She also expressed her gratitude to his wife, Margaret Katende, describing her as a strong pillar who has greatly supported Owek. Katende in achieving this success.
The Nnaabagereka further commended the work of The Ebonies for their high standards in promoting cultural heritage in Uganda, particularly that of Buganda. She acknowledged their efforts in using theater as a medium for education and for delivering impactful messages through their numerous productions over the years.
In her speech, the Queen of Buganda appreciated the various individuals who have been part of The Ebonies’ journey, as well as those who attended the play staged at Serena Hotel.
She described the performance as an opportunity to unite generations—those who have been part of the group's history and the younger audiences eager to learn from these experienced thespians.
The Nnaabagereka also called on the government, organizations, and individuals to support the performing arts and talent development as a means of promoting cultural heritage and building strong nations globally.
