Officials from the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Water and Environment visited Bulange to present to the Kingdom of Buganda their environmental conservation initiatives, and to propose a unified national approach to preserving the environment.

The delegation was led by Brigadier General David Gonyi, Chief of Staff of the Uganda Air Force, along with other senior officers.

Brig. Gen. Gonyi noted that the effects of climate change are affecting everyone without discrimination, and stressed the importance of working together with the Kingdom to find solutions to safeguard the environment. He explained that although Uganda is blessed with rich natural resources and a generally favourable climate, much of the environmental degradation seen today is caused by human activity.

The Katikkiro welcomed the involvement of the UPDF in environmental conservation and encouraged collaboration in protecting wetlands, rivers, forests, and wildlife, and developing a coordinated national strategy.

He emphasized that if the environment is not protected, climate patterns will change, leading to food and water shortages, unpredictable rainfall, and potentially civil unrest.

The delegation was informed that the Kingdom is ready to work hand-in-hand with the UPDF through initiatives such as tree planting, community clean-up campaigns, and the removal of illegal settlers from protected areas, all with the goal of safeguarding the natural wealth that God gave Uganda.
