Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi greets the Katikkiro during the meeting
Members of the National Unity Platform (NUP) have joined the fight against HIV/AIDS by purchasing marathon kits worth UGX 15 million for the Kabaka’s Birthday Run.
The marathon kits were handed over by the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, to the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and NUP spokesperson, Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi, during a meeting at Bulange.
While handing over the kits, the Katikkiro urged political leaders to conduct themselves responsibly, especially in the communities they serve. He also encouraged them to take personal responsibility for their health and to protect their supporters from contracting HIV/AIDS.
Owek. Mayiga condemned the human rights violations witnessed during the Kawempe by-election, stating that such actions only tarnish the government’s image. He emphasized that elections should never be a matter of life and death.
NUP spokesperson Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS. He also called on the government to improve healthcare services by ensuring better salaries for medical workers and supplying adequate medicine in hospitals to prevent avoidable deaths.
