The Katikkiro speaking to the midwives at Mulago Hospital
When mothers receive proper care during pregnancy, children are born healthy, and family challenges are greatly reduced, the Katikkiro of Buganda said.
Katikkiro made these remarks while addressing an audience at Mulago Specialised Women and Neonatal Hospital, a facility dedicated to providing advanced care for women and combating life-threatening conditions for both mothers and unborn children.
He emphasized, “Mothers are the primary caregivers for their children and even for fathers when they are unwell. A family thrives when the mother’s health is prioritized, creating joy and stability at home.” Katikkiro pledged to focus on critical issues affecting people’s health, especially vulnerable mothers who lack access to quality care.
He commended the government for constructing the specialized hospital but urged them to equip it with sufficient medical supplies and machinery. He also pointed out the challenges posed by inadequate healthcare funding, which leads to staff dissatisfaction and frequent strikes.
Katikkiro called on the government to ensure better remuneration for healthcare workers and teachers, as they are the backbone of the nation’s development.

He also highlighted the importance of fathers supporting their partners by accompanying them to healthcare facilities.
Dr. Evelyn Nabunnya, head of Mulago Specialised Women and Neonatal Hospital, expressed the institution’s eagerness to partner with the Buganda Kingdom to ensure women receive comprehensive and high-quality healthcare services.
On behalf of the Kingdom's Ministry of Health and Community Development, Oweek. Choltilda Nakate Kikomeko reiterated the need to prioritize health initiatives.
She assured that the kingdom remains committed to collaborating with experts in the health sector to ensure proper planning and execution of health-related projects. She added that ongoing efforts to construct modern health facilities in various counties offer hope for improved access to quality healthcare across the region.
