Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has visited coffee farmer and livestock keeper, Mr. Anthony Mateega, in Mawokota County. He urged all Kabaka’s chiefs to intensify the dissemination of agricultural and livestock farming information to help eradicate poverty in Buganda.
This visit took place in the sub-county of Deputy Gombolola Chief Kammengo, at Mpondwe Kibanga village, where Mr. Mateega cultivates 70 acres of coffee and keeps poultry, which provides him with manure.
Katikkiro Mayiga called upon leaders at various levels, especially religious leaders, to initiate programs aimed at improving the welfare of the people they serve. He made these remarks in Mawokota County while touring Mateega’s farm.

Owek. Mayiga emphasized that religious leaders must also be involved in transforming people’s lives, rather than focusing solely on preaching the Word. He quoted the Bible, stating, “He who does not work should not eat.”
Kamalabyona began his tour in Deputy Gombolola Chief Kammengo’s area, where he inspected poultry and coffee plantations covering 70 acres. He also visited a site where an irrigation system is set to be established for the coffee plantation.
Later, he proceeded to Ssaabagabo Muduuma sub-county, in Bbulamazzi village, to inspect another farm owned by Mr. Mateega, covering 30 acres. This farm is not only dedicated to coffee but also supports livestock farming, including cattle, goats, chickens, and turkeys.
Kamalabyona highlighted the urgent need for significant transformations in the livelihoods of Kabaka’s people, especially leaders, given that they pay substantial taxes. He urged everyone to actively participate in beneficial initiatives such as Mmwanyi Terimba.

The spokesperson of the Buganda Kingdom, Kayima Sarah Nannono, emphasized the need for Kabaka’s people to grow plantains in Buganda, citing the availability of a ready market.
In his remarks, Mr. Anthony Mateega expressed concern over the reluctance of Kabaka’s people to embrace farming, despite having access to the necessary resources. He urged Kabaka’s leaders to strengthen programs that promote both agriculture and livestock farming.
Kabaka’s chiefs at the sub-county and parish levels commended Katikkiro Mayiga for introducing kingdom initiatives that can improve the livelihoods of Buganda’s people.
