Minister Noah Kiyimba has paid a visit to craftsmen and farmers in Lubaga division. Among the places he visited was a small poultry project in Nakuwadde, focusing on rearing local chickens instead of exotic white breeds.

Dr. Dianah Kitonsa, the owner of the farm, explained that through this initiative, jobs have been created and many households have been able to increase their income.

The Minister also visited Dr. Nakanyike Annet in Namungoona Kigobe, who rears chickens in a limited space, helping her earn a living and provide for her family.

In Nakulabye, Ms. Nakato Gloria uses her backyard to grow sukuma wiki, rear ducks and chickens, and cultivate bananas.

Another stop was at the home of widow Annet Kayongo in Nakulabye, who turned her compound into a multipurpose project with fish farming, vegetable growing, and poultry. She demonstrated to the Minister how she manages fish farming using small containers to store water for the fish.

At Kabuusu in Lubaga, Minister Kiyimba visited a youth workshop where young people are engaged in crafts such as shoemaking, tailoring of clothes and bags, and jewelry production. The workshop is managed by Mr. Gideon Byamureba, who explained that he established it to train youth to become self-reliant and to increase the volume of Ugandan-made products for both local and international markets.

In his message, the Buganda Minister for Cabinet, Parliament, and the Office of the Katikkiro, Hon. Noah Kiyimba, encouraged Kabaka’s subjects to rear local chickens, saying they are easy to manage, provide medicinal benefits, and feed naturally on grass, insects, and simple leftovers.

The Minister expressed his joy at seeing many youth actively engaged in these projects, putting into practice the Kabaka’s message of self-reliance rather than dependency.

He emphasized that such initiatives are a way of fighting poverty and urged young people to embrace vocational and craft-based work as a pathway out of hardship.

He also underlined the importance of choosing leaders who understand the Kabaka, are hardworking, and are passionate about the Kingdom, pointing to Dr. Dianah Kitonsa as an example of someone who works to develop all people without discrimination.

Minister Kiyimba thanked the widow Kayongo for her resilience, noting that despite the loss of her husband, she has continued to rebuild her life through productive work.

He further encouraged the Kabaka’s subjects to use their skills and innovations to generate income, particularly in vegetable farming.

Dr. Dianah Kitonsa, who leads the training and empowerment initiative, called on the Buganda Kingdom to partner with such community projects so that more people can be trained and supported to overcome poverty.
