Friends, dignitaries, and former colleagues gathered for a special memorial service at St. Stephen's Church Lungujja in Kampala to honour the late educationist Joyce Mpanga. The event, attended by prominent figures from both Mengo and the Central Government, featured tributes to Mpanga, who passed away after being rushed to Kampala Hospital due to chest pains.
Dignitaries, including Buganda Parliament Speaker Hon. Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule, Ministers of the Kabaka, the Royal Family, politicians, and Kabaka's chiefs, paid their respects at Stephen's Church in Lungujja. Hon. Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule led the Kingdom in expressing sorrow over the loss of Mpanga, praising her as a distinguished, active member of the Buganda Assembly and a valuable advisor.
As outlined by the Buganda Kingdom, the official burial program began with a service and vigil at Mpanga's residence in Lungujja, Rubaga Division, Kampala. The main funeral service is scheduled at St Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, on Wednesday, November 22, at 2 pm. The interment will take place in Maya, Wakiso District, on Thursday.
Joyce Mpanga, a former member of the Buganda Lukiiko, served as the Minister of Women in Development from 1988 to 1989 and later as the Minister of State for Primary Education in the central government from 1989 to 1992. She succumbed to an undisclosed illness at the age of 90.
