In a monumental display of unity and generosity, Buganda has successfully raised a staggering 1.5 billion shillings through its Oluwalo donation program in 2023. The Minister of Regional Government and Foreign Affairs of Buganda, Hon Joseph Kawuki, announced the remarkable achievement during a culmination event that brought together provinces, districts, schools, politicians, families, and various organizations.
The event, which marked the program's conclusion for the year, saw enthusiastic participation from counties, including Busiro, CBS Fans Club Kyaddondo, Mutuba II Kingo, and Kabaka provinces in America. The donations will play a pivotal role in supporting various initiatives aimed at enhancing education, healthcare, and the overall activities of the Buganda Kingdom.
During the fundraising event, the Katikkiro highlighted the impactful use of the donated funds. These include strengthening the Kabaka's education fund, improving healthcare services, and supporting the activities of the Kabaka, such as beautifying headquarters, acquiring office necessities, and facilitating foreign trips.
Expressing gratitude to the chiefs who tirelessly conveyed the kingdom's message, the Katikkiro commended their dedication and commitment to fulfilling their responsibilities without making excuses. He emphasized the need for county residents to diversify their skills, engaging in various activities such as cooperatives, farming, business, and education.
However, the Katikkiro expressed concern over emerging voices suggesting the taxation of funds raised through donations. He vehemently opposed such notions, asserting that taxing contributions made out of love contradicts the federal system that people are advocating for. "Get rid of excessive greed," he urged, emphasizing the altruistic nature of the contributions from the Kabaka's subjects.
