Lubaga Hospital has unveiled a state-of-the-art six-story building, named the Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Specialist Center, as part of its celebrations to mark 125 years since its establishment.
The ceremony began with a special Mass led by the Papal Nuncio to Uganda, Archbishop Luigi Bianco, assisted by the Archbishop of Kampala, His Grace Paul Ssemogerere, and retired Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Augustine Kasujja.
The official inauguration of the building was presided over by Uganda’s Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, representing President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
This new facility, dedicated to the memory of Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, will offer specialised medical services, including advanced diagnostic care and other modern treatments.
The centre was constructed as a testament to Lubaga Hospital’s commitment to improving healthcare standards in Uganda.
Lubaga Hospital celebrates 125 years, honouring the strong partnership with the Buganda Kingdom that led to the donation of land for the construction of the hospital.
Representing the Buganda Kingdom, the Minister for the Buganda Cabinet, Hon. Noah Kiyimba, delivered a message from the Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga. He praised the hospital for its longstanding partnership with the Buganda Kingdom, which dates back to its founding.
Minister Kiyimba emphasised the hospital’s vital role in improving healthcare for the Kingdom’s people and tackling illnesses in their communities.
He also pledged the Kingdom’s continued support for Lubaga Hospital’s initiatives in delivering quality healthcare services to the people of Buganda and Uganda as a whole.
The celebration was graced by several dignitaries, including the retired Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. JB Walusimbi, the Mayor of Lubaga, Mberaze Zaake Mawula, former Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi, and prominent leaders in the health sector.
Special recognition was given to the founders and past leaders of Lubaga Hospital for their dedication and service, which have elevated the institution to its current status over the past 125 years.
His Grace Paul Ssemogerere commended the hospital for its consistent delivery of high-quality healthcare and its role as a pillar of community well-being.
Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, through Hon. Noah Kiyimba, lauded the unique partnership between the Buganda Kingdom and Lubaga Hospital. He called on people to continue trusting the hospital for their healthcare needs.
For 125 years, Lubaga Hospital has remained committed to serving diverse communities and stands as a shining example of excellence in Uganda’s healthcare sector.
