The Kisekwa Court judges delivering their verdict
Some members of the Walusimbi family expressed relief after the Kisekwa Court revoked Yusuf Mbirozankya's position as the clan head (Omutaka) of the Effumbe clan.
The Effumbe clan is now set to elect a new clan head after it was revealed that Yusuf Mbirozankya was not eligible for the role according to the evidence presented to the Kisekwa Buganda cultural court.
This decision followed a lawsuit filed by James Walusimbi Kisasa, the Katikkiro of the Magunda House, and others in the Kisekwa Court, which discovered that Yusuf Mbirozankya did not belong to the lineage of Kisitu Ntege, the rightful lineage for the position of Walusimbi.
According to the ruling, the clan head must originate from one of three main houses (masiga), none of which Mbirozankya belongs to.
Both parties were present
The Kisekwa Court, led by Judge Joshua Kateregga, reviewed various pieces of evidence presented by both parties, concluding that the Effumbe clan has operated under illegitimate leadership for over 1,000 years.
The losing party has been given 30 days to appeal to the Kabaka.
This means that the leadership in the three main houses – Magunda, Nagaya, and Ssempala – must convene to elect a legitimate clan head.
