The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged Ugandans to stop undermining their cultural traditions by imitating foreign practices without discernment.

He was speaking at the funeral rites of the late Ssenyonga Maurice in Sserugoye village, Buloba, Busiro County.

Mayiga emphasized that funeral rites hold great significance in Buganda as a ceremony where clans are strengthened, families and the nation are built, and unity among people is reinforced.

He called on Baganda to take time to understand the wisdom behind their ancestors establishing the funeral rites ceremony, warning against being swept away by foreign influence that erodes Buganda’s culture and traditions.

Peter Ssenyonjo was named and confirmed as the heir to his late father. The Katikkiro advised him to be a good leader among his family members — to listen to them, love them, respect them, and lead with humility in all he does.
