The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged people to remain mindful and not forget God or the people they serve after attaining wealth, honour and leadership. He said that wealth and status should always go hand in hand with service and humanity.
He made the remarks at Luwala–Ggoli in Mawokota during celebrations to mark 50 years of priesthood of Rev. Fr. Denis Kyemwa, the head of Busubizi parish.
Katikkiro said that serving faithfully for 50 years, at a time when others choose marriage or secular leadership, demonstrates courage and integrity worthy of praise.
He added that the priesthood carries many responsibilities, including selfless service without the desire for wealth, and that these values should be reflected in actions, conduct and good leadership towards the people being served.

Speaking at the event, the Katikkiro said, “A person who turns away from the pursuit of wealth and chooses to serve God and the people, and one born into a family of chiefs who chooses not to marry, is truly exceptional. I highly commend my son, Rev. Fr. Denis Kyemwa, for his discipline and dedicated service over 50 years of priesthood.”
The Buganda Minister for Local Government and Buganda Affairs Abroad, Oweek. Joseph Kawuki, commended Rev. Fr. Kyemwa for his efforts in fighting land grabbers in Ssingo and praised him for setting an example worthy of emulation by leaders.
Bishop Lawrence Mukasa of Kasana–Luwero Diocese, who presided over the Mass, said Rev. Fr. Kyemwa has a deep love for his Engeye clan and never misses its functions, reflecting his commitment to the Buganda Kingdom and the Catholic Church.
Archbishop Augustine Kasujja said Rev. Fr. Kyemwa comes from a supportive and well-grounded family that has guided him throughout his journey, and thanked him for his many years of dedicated service.
Bishop Anthony Zziwa of Kiyinda–Mityana Diocese, speaking on behalf of all Catholic bishops in Uganda, said Rev. Fr. Kyemwa is a source of pride to the Catholic Church because of his long-standing and exemplary service.
The event was attended by the Buganda Minister for Social Development and in charge of the Office of the Nnaabagereka, Choltilda Nakate Kikomeko, county chiefs including Hajji Hassan Kagga and Oweek. Deo Kagimu, religious leaders and other dignitaries.
