The Katikkiro of Buganda has urged young people and supporters of the National Unity Platform (NUP) to use social media responsibly and with caution, warning them against making statements that could cost them opportunities or follow them in the future.

He said, “You can say something today and lose your standing ten years from now. If you see a mistake, speak about the mistake but do not insult the person, and do not involve their mother, spouse or child.”

He added, “A heart that does not weigh its words can make you say something your friend will never forget.”

Katikkiro made the remarks while addressing NUP supporters led by their party president, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, who had visited Bulange to brief him on the progress of the election campaign.

Katikkiro based his message on five key principles: protecting, saving and strengthening the Buganda Kingdom (Nnamulondo); devolving power under the federal system; safeguarding Buganda’s land and boundaries; promoting hard work; and strengthening unity.

He urged NUP supporters to embrace these principles with commitment and sincerity, noting that they are aimed at developing the people and winning the trust of Buganda. He said Buganda desires dialogue between NUP and NRM leaders, emphasizing that unity and people’s freedom are the hope of the Kingdom.

He also called on the government to ensure peaceful elections by stopping the use of batons, tear gas and live ammunition, saying such measures should be reserved for enemies who attack the country.

Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu and the National Unity Platform pledged continued loyalty to the Buganda Kingdom. He asked the Katikkiro to convey a message to the Kabaka expressing their love, prayers and deep commitment to their country.

He said some political rivals were deliberately working to undermine the good relationship between NUP and the Buganda Kingdom.

The meeting was attended by Oweek. Noah Kiyimba, Oweek. Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, Oweek. Choltilda Nakate Kikomeko, Oweek. Hajjat Mariam Nkalubo Mayanja, and on the NUP side: Joel Ssenyonyi, Hon.
