The Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, has called on the people of Buganda to work hard and avoid a mindset of self-pity, urging them to take charge of their lives if Buganda is to reach greater heights.
Speaking during the Easter Sunday service at Queen Mary of Peace Church in Lugazi, the Katikkiro emphasized that the key objective of the Ttoffaali initiative was to elevate Baganda toward self-development, to fight poverty, and to stay committed to sustainable progress.
He said places of worship in the Kingdom should not merely be centres of prayer, but believers must lead the way in contributing to development initiatives that benefit their communities. “The Church moves forward because people support it,” the Katikkiro stated.
He pledged that the Kingdom would continue to promote unity and counter those who think Buganda’s affairs can be undermined. He noted that Buganda’s strength lies in upholding the Throne and working together with dedication and purpose.
The Easter Mass
The Mass was led by the Bishop of Lugazi Diocese, Bishop Christopher Kakooza, who preached about the responsibility of believers to follow the scriptures, embrace new beginnings, and seek God with renewed energy.

The Chief of Kyaggwe County, Owek. Vincent Matovu Bintubizibu, thanked the Kingdom for its work in the area, stating that the resurrection of Christ reminded them of the great work done by the Kabaka — such as the construction of a hospital in Nnyenga and the establishment of Ssekiboobo Nursery School to support early childhood education.
A Gift to the Kabaka
Christians attending the service presented a gift to His Majesty the Kabaka, hoping that he will accept it and turn it into a royal treasure. According to the church’s history, the bishop’s seat in this church was donated by His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
