Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga and Hon. Joseph Kawuki meeting county chiefs at Bulange, Mmengo
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has met with the Kabaka’s county chiefs and their deputies in a session held at Bulange, Mmengo.
Addressing the chiefs, the Katikkiro urged them, at every level, to follow the leadership structures set by the government of His Majesty the Kabaka in all their work and responsibilities.
“We have many ideas, but not everyone can implement whatever idea they like. We must have order and structure. Someone may suggest that we grow cotton, and you say, ‘That’s fine,’ but let us first focus on coffee. When coffee is well established, we can then consider other crops,” said Mayiga.
The Katikkiro thanked the chiefs for their work among the Kabaka’s people, but encouraged them to strengthen leadership at every level, from villages, parishes, sub-counties, and up to counties. He urged them to work in unity with those they lead, to delegate responsibilities, and to promote initiatives that generate income to support their work.

The Kattikkiro also advised the chiefs to remain cautious during the current national political season. He asked them not to openly support any specific political party or individual but instead to welcome all people equally while upholding the dignity and respect of the Kabaka.
The Katikkiro further called upon the chiefs to clean and maintain their traditional county headquarters and to mobilize people to actively participate in the Oluwalo development initiative, reminding them that “Buganda ku Ntikko” is not just a slogan but a practical program aimed at uplifting Buganda and improving people’s lives.
The Minister for Local Government in Buganda, Hon. Joseph Kawuki, also addressed the meeting, presenting the Katikkiro with updates on the achievements since the last meeting with the chiefs. He reported progress in the smooth operation of county activities and mentioned that caretakers and monitors had been appointed in every county to assist the chiefs in their work. He added that all county chiefs have been provided with health insurance.
Hon. Kawuki encouraged the Kabaka’s chiefs to continue fostering unity, ensuring justice in their leadership, and working hard to promote the practical implementation of Federo.
The meeting was attended by county chiefs from all 18 Buganda counties and other representatives from outside Buganda.
