The Bulungibwansi initiative should be implemented across all of Uganda to promote cleanliness and protect our environment.

This will help combat issues like grazing animals in cities, constructing fuel stations near residential areas, and building houses without proper planning.

We urge our people to embrace the Bulungibwansi initiative, and this year, the main celebrations will take place in Kyaggwe on October 8, 2024.

We cannot destroy the environment and expect development in return.

The Minister of Welfare, Environment, Water, and Human Settlements, Hajjat Mariam Nkalubo Mayanja emphasised that the nation cannot progress without environmental preservation.

She affirmed, 'Tax collection will be hindered, soil degradation will impact coffee farming, and deforestation will deprive people of rainfall.

Minister Mariam, made these remarks while opening a youth leadership workshop focused on environmental conservation in the counties.

She explained why the youth were chosen, stating that they want young people to increase their efforts in understanding that this generation is entrusted to them by the Kabaka (King).

They should use their natural talents and education to actively participate in protecting the environment.

She also expressed concern over the government’s neglect in protecting forests, land, wetlands, and other natural resources, noting that this negligence has led to environmental degradation.

She urged the youth to step forward and take charge of protecting the environment, starting in their local communities.
