The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, praised the dedicated service of the late Katikkiro, Owek. Paul Nelly Kavuma, who served during the reign of Ssekabaka Muteesa II. Kavuma worked tirelessly during a particularly challenging period, enduring numerous obstacles, criticism, and opposition.

This praise came during the launch of the book Crisis in Buganda 1953-1955, authored by the late Owek. Paul Nelly Kavuma. The event was held at Bulange, Mengo.

The launched book details the exile and return of Kabaka Muteesa II.

The Kabaka Crisis (1953-1955) was a political and constitutional conflict in the Uganda Protectorate, during which Kabaka Muteesa II sought Buganda’s secession. He was deposed and exiled by British Governor Andrew Cohen.

Katikkiro Mayiga emphasized the significant contribution of the late Owek. Paul Kavuma in documenting Buganda's history. He urged all of Kabaka’s subjects to embrace reading and writing as a means of preserving Buganda’s rich history for future generations.

In his speech, he encouraged people to write books and emphasized the importance of respecting authors, urging them not to criticize or undermine their work.

In a special way, the Katikkiro praised the leaders who have been honored by the King and entrusted with the Kingdom, commending their exceptional courage and determination in elevating Buganda to greatness. He urged future generations to emulate their example.

Omutaka Keeya Ttendo Namuyimba II, head of the Ngo clan, reminded all descendants with a passion for writing books to consider writing them in Luganda. This, he said, would make it easier for those who do not speak English to understand both historical and current events.

Dr. Jane Samalie Kavuma Kayonga, one of the children of the late Katikkiro Paul Nelly Kavuma and the leader of the book’s publication, said their father will be remembered for his significant contributions to the Kingdom. He urged everyone interested in history to take advantage of the book to gain deeper insights.
