The heads of Welfare Departments across various counties recently participated in a training focused on modern reporting systems and workflow practices.

The initiative aimed to enhance their report-writing skills, improve overall departmental efficiency, and explore ways to better serve their communities through developmental projects that could create opportunities.

This program was spearheaded by the Minister of Welfare, Environment, and Gender, Hon. Hajjat Mariam Nkalubo Mayanja.

She emphasised the importance of transitioning to organised and contemporary methods, moving away from outdated practices.

The leaders were encouraged to modernise their operations, produce detailed written reports, and identify opportunities for community engagement, which could lead to the creation of jobs and other benefits.

Some participants presented reports showcasing initiatives like tree planting in key areas such as schools and hospitals, organising strategic meetings, and promoting community engagement in welfare activities, particularly in waste management efforts.

They stressed the importance of involving children, especially in schools, to ensure the continuity of these welfare activities and to inspire a culture of responsibility in future generations.

Minister Nkalubo further urged leaders to collaborate closely with the welfare and sanitation departments to address issues like pollution.

She advised them to investigate the factors contributing to pollution and analyse the impact of foreign influences that may not align with the traditions of the areas they have entered.

Additionally, she encouraged leaders to learn from other regions facing similar challenges and advocate for proper waste disposal practices, such as the use of bins, to maintain cleanliness.

She emphasised that welfare and sanitation projects could also serve as opportunities for job creation and community development, helping to build strong leadership from the departmental to county levels.
