Muslims across Uganda gathered in various mosques today to observe Eid El-Fitr prayers, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
At Kibuli Mosque, the titular head of the Muslim community in Uganda, Prince Dr. Kassim Nakibinge, strongly condemned acts of violence, including assaults on civilians, that occurred during the by-election for Kawempe North Member of Parliament.
Prince Nakibinge denounced such brutality and urged people to refrain from causing harm to others while expressing their political differences. He specifically advised the youth to avoid anger and actions that could endanger their lives.
In his address, Nakibinge praised Muslims for their dedication to fasting and prayer, encouraging them to maintain good character and righteousness even after Ramadan.
The First Deputy Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek. Prof. Twaha Kaawaase Kigongo, who was also in attendance, expressed gratitude to Kabaka Mutebi for his Eid message to Buganda. He urged the people to reflect deeply on the message and put it into practice.
Owek. Kaawaase also acknowledged the Kabaka’s concern about the mismanagement of public resources and called for corrective measures.
Additionally, he appreciated the contribution of Muslims towards the prosperity of Buganda and encouraged participation in the upcoming Kabaka’s birthday celebrations, particularly the royal run scheduled for April 6, 2025.
