A view of the church during the service, with attendees from various sectors including government and the local community
Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has called upon believers attending the Christmas service to strengthen unity.
He also encouraged them to reflect on the message of the Kabaka as a guide to navigating the festive season and the New Year.
Delivering the Kabaka's message during the Christmas Mass at Lubaga Cathedral on Wednesday, Katikkiro Mayiga emphasized the importance of hope and resilience, stating that the Kabaka has reassured the Kingdom of his improving health. The Kabaka’s message urged people to remain steadfast, optimistic, and forward-looking.
The Katikkiro explained that the Kabaka has expressed concerns over unresolved disputes in parliamentary sessions, which have often led to fights and have now extended to lower council meetings.
His Majesty the Kabaka urged the people to exercise caution during the upcoming elections and to support candidates who prioritize Buganda's interests within the larger framework of Uganda
The Christmas service, led by Ssaabasumba Paul Ssemogerere, was attended by dignitaries from the central and local government, as well as community members
Key Messages from the Kabaka:
- Unity: The Katikkiro reminded the people of Buganda of the significance of unity, describing it as the fifth pillar of development.
He emphasized that challenges are inevitable but can be overcome through collective unity. Citing the Kabaka’s words from the 31st Matikkira celebrations, he said, “If we are united, the enemy will have no entry point.”
- Fighting Poverty: The Kabaka urged people to focus on agriculture, particularly coffee farming, as a means to combat poverty and improve livelihoods.
He also stressed the importance of distinguishing between right and wrong.
Preserving Culture: The youth were advised to seek guidance from elders in all they do and to uphold cultural and religious values.
The Katikkiro emphasized respect for others' beliefs and reiterated that while challenges persist, unity remains a critical tool for achieving success.
In his sermon, Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere drew inspiration from the words of the Pope, urging believers not to lose hope in any situation. He encouraged patience, love, gratitude, and appreciation for God's blessings.
The Archbishop also advised parents to use the holiday season to guide their children, instilling discipline and a strong work ethic that will shape their future.
Minister for Higher Education, JC Muyingo, congratulated the public on reaching Christmas and urged parents to supervise their children during the holiday, especially regarding responsible use of social media.

Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, leader of the National Unity Platform, also attended the service. He called on the congregation to pray for those in prisons and urged the authorities to ensure justice for all detainees.
Kyagulanyi encouraged parents to teach their children good morals and proper conduct during the festive season.
The service, held amid light showers, was attended by clergy, leaders from the Kabaka's government, representatives of the central government, politicians, and people from various walks of life.
