The Buganda Kingdom has sent a delegation of 80 farmers to Kenya for advanced training in modern agricultural practices. The group is led by Buganda’s Minister for Agriculture, Cooperatives, Trade and Fisheries, Hon. Hajj Amisi Kakomo.

Minister Kakomo urged the farmers to take the training seriously and to implement what they learn upon their return. He reminded them of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s call to prioritise agriculture as a key driver of improved livelihoods for his subjects.

He stated that “One of the main objectives of this trip to Kenya is to put into action the Kabaka’s directive to promote agriculture and uplift the living standards of his subjects.”

Rt. Rev. Bishop Henry Katumba Tamale, former Bishop of West Buganda Diocese and Vice Chairperson of the Kabaka Foundation Board, thanked the Kingdom for its continued efforts to support the agricultural sector. He noted that initiatives such as the Kingdom's coffee programme are already yielding tangible benefits.

The Chairman of the Kabaka Foundation, Omuk. Eddie Kaggwa Ndagala, stated that it is time for the Kabaka’s subjects to stop begging, as they possess the ability to provide for themselves if they remain committed.

Busiro East MP, Hon. Medard Lubega Ssegona, who also joined the delegation, stressed that the government has a serious responsibility to invest in agriculture and identify markets that can help farmers benefit meaningfully from their efforts. He added that Uganda’s economy largely depends on agriculture, which many subjects already understand and practise.

The group began their study tour by visiting various livestock farms in Githunguri, Nairobi. These included farms with cattle, goats, poultry, pigs, and other livestock.

This initiative is part of Buganda’s broader strategy to modernise agriculture and livestock farming. It is organised through a partnership between the Kabaka Foundation and Heifer International Uganda, with sponsorship from the Mott Foundation, based in the United States.
