The Buganda Kingdom has launched a new initiative to establish agro-input shops aimed at helping farmers and livestock keepers access modern agricultural tools and products at affordable prices.
The programme, implemented through a partnership between the Kingdom and Stanbic Bank, is intended to tackle the widespread issue of substandard agricultural inputs on the market.
The initiative will initially be rolled out in four counties — Buweekula, Ssingo, Mawokota, and Buddu.
Speaking on behalf of the Katikkiro (Prime Minister) Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, the Kingdom’s First Deputy Katikkiro, Owek. Prof. Twaha Kaawaase, said the partnership is a significant step toward ensuring farmers in Buganda receive quality agricultural inputs at fair prices and free from counterfeits.
The Kingdom’s Minister for Agriculture, Cooperatives, Trade, and Fisheries, Owek. Hajji Amiisi Kakomo, said the agreement will lead to the establishment of modern agro-input shops that will operate under cooperative models, with the goal of strengthening community collaboration and economic empowerment.

Stanbic Bank Uganda’s CEO, Mr. Paul Muganwa, expressed the bank’s commitment to supporting the initiative, highlighting their focus on uplifting women’s groups and other community cooperatives across Buganda through financial inclusion and development support.
