The Buganda Kingdom has joined the rest of the world in marking World Youth Skills Day.
This year’s theme is “Fostering AI technology and technical skills among young people.”
Buganda’s Minister for Youth, Owek. Robert Serwanga, toured youth engaged in different technical and innovative works. He visited the Makerere University Innovation Pod and the Makerere University Information Technology Centre, where young innovators are supported to shape their ideas, develop them further, and put them into practice.
Owek. Serwanga said that the Kingdom is committed to boosting the use of technology in the work done by youth. He revealed that the ministry is building partnerships with such institutions to train, mentor and support young people so that their ideas can transform their lives.
He added that in this new financial year, initiatives such as the Buganda Digital Hub and others are focused on promoting the positive use of technology, in contrast to some of the negative trends seen in recent times.
During the visit, the Minister was accompanied by leaders of youth in Buganda, led by their chairperson, lawyer Derrick Kavuma.
