The Buganda Kingdom has contributed over UGX 200 million to Nkozi Hospital to support the construction of a ward dedicated to treating accident victims.
The funds were raised through the Kaliisoliiso Charity Drive, organized annually by the Kingdom in partnership with CBS FM under the Kaliisoliiso program.
During a ceremony held at Bulange, Mengo, the Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, handed over a cheque worth UGX 206,325,000 to the hospital representatives. While addressing attendees, he emphasized the importance of road safety, especially as the festive season approaches.
“The Kabaka places great importance on health, and the Kingdom remains committed to supporting initiatives that improve the well-being of our people,” Owek. Mayiga stated. He further assured continued support for the completion of the ward at Nkozi Hospital.

Katikkiro also urged the public to avoid reckless driving, excessive speeding, and alcohol consumption while following traffic rules to reduce road accidents. He reiterated his call to the government to install road signs in local languages to enhance understanding and compliance.
The Second Deputy Katikkiro, Owek. Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, who also chairs the Kaliisoliiso organizing committee, revealed that this year’s fundraising effort exceeded expectations, with UGX 200 million collected compared to UGX 172 million last year. He praised the unity and generosity of Buganda’s people, expressing hope for even greater success in the future.
Representing Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere, Msgr. Charles Kasibante commended the Kingdom’s support for Nkozi Hospital and pledged the Church’s oversight to ensure the project is completed effectively. He thanked the Kabaka for his contributions to health and lauded everyone who participated in supporting the hospital.

Centenary Bank’s Managing Director, Fabian Kasi, speaking on behalf of partners, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to community-centered initiatives like Kaliisoliiso. He promised the bank’s continued support for future charity drives and encouraged others to join similar initiatives.
It was also announced that the next Kaliisoliiso Charity Drive will take place on October 3, 2025, to sustain the momentum of this vital project.
