The Katikkiro speaks to the health official.
In a dedicated endeavour to enhance healthcare to combat malaria, The Katikkiro and Buganda Ministers have undergone training on how to prevent malaria in Buganda and Uganda at large.
Dr Daniel Kyabayeze, representing the Ministry of Health, conducted the training session on behalf of Dr Diana Atwine, the Permanent Secretary, who was unable to attend.
Dr. Kyabayeze highlighted a significant decrease in malaria cases in Buganda. However, he emphasized the importance of promoting cleanliness, using mosquito nets and maintaining overall sanitation practices to reduce the prevalence of mosquito-related illnesses.
Dr Kyabayeze expressed gratitude to the kingdom for their participation in mosquito net distribution. However, he pointed out that there has been misuse of mosquito nets for activities such as fishing, feeding chickens, and even unconventional uses like wedding gowns. To address this, both the kingdom and the government have formulated a plan with the ambitious goal of eradicating malaria in the country by the year 2030.
Speaking at the session, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga emphasised the proper use of mosquito nets, discouraging their misuse for activities like fishing, feeding chickens, or unconventional purposes like squeezing juice from passion fruits. He urged individuals to use mosquito nets for their intended purpose and advised that torn nets should be promptly repaired through sewing.
Additionally, Katikkiro Mayiga addressed the issue of seeking medical treatment without proper expertise, stating that it was incorrect. He emphasized the importance of individuals seeking a check-up first and then obtaining the right treatment from qualified healthcare professionals.
The campaign will persist in its efforts to promote health and malaria among Kabaka’s subjects. The training session also included clan heads, their assistants, and sub-county chiefs in Kyaddondo. These key figures have been provided with valuable information about the dangers of malaria transmitted by mosquitoes and how it can be prevented.
