Hon. Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule delivers the Katikkiro’s message

The Buganda Kingdom has reaffirmed its strong commitment to teaching, promoting, and preserving the Luganda language.

The message, delivered on behalf of Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga by the Speaker of the Buganda Lukiiko, Hon. Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule, came during the launch of Luganda-language news bulletins on Family Television, produced by Amafeffette.

The Katikkiro thanked the leadership of the Church of Uganda for its efforts in uplifting the Luganda language. He called upon the station to build its news programming on truth, honesty, and fairness.

Hon. Mugumbule, in his own remarks, expressed gratitude to the Archbishop and the entire Christian community for their determination in clearing the mortgage (ebanja) on Janan Luwum Church House, which now houses the Church’s television station, which was the venue for this ceremony.

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Steven Kazimba Mugalu, urged media practitioners to avoid news that destroys people’s hope. Instead, he encouraged them to gather and share stories that inspire and uplift communities.

He cautioned against sensational and terrifying headlines such as “Murdered!” or “Decapitated!” saying that such headlines breed fear, despair, and hopelessness among the public.

The newly launched Luganda news bulletins will air daily at 6 p.m.
