Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga has launched the 2025 Masaza Cup, alongside senior representatives from the tournament’s main sponsor, Airtel.
While addressing guests at the launch, the Katikkiro of Buganda urged all participants to uphold respect for the game, maintain integrity, and observe discipline, discouraging any belief in witchcraft.
He noted that sports are not merely for leisure, but also serve as a source of income, recognition, and talent development. This, he said, is why the Buganda Kingdom prioritises sports.

This year’s edition marks the 21st Masaza Cup since the competition’s revival in 2004. The opening match is scheduled for this Saturday at Kitovu Sports Arena, where Buddu will face off against Gomba.
