The Buganda Kingdom’s Minister for Security, Owek. Anthony Wamala, met with officers of the Kabaka’s Protection Unit (KPU), the force responsible for safeguarding the Kabaka, the Kingdom, and Buganda’s cultural sites, during a meeting held at the Lubiri Palace in Mengo.
Minister Wamala encouraged the officers of the KPU to follow all of the Kingdom’s strategic plans to further strengthen security within Buganda.
He emphasized that the primary duty of these officers is to ensure the safety of the Kabaka and the entire Buganda Kingdom. He said this can best be achieved by diligently implementing the Kingdom’s established security plans. He thanked the officers for their work and pledged continued support to help them fulfill their responsibilities.
The Kabaka’s Protection Unit is tasked with safeguarding His Majesty the Kabaka wherever he is, securing his regalia, protecting the royal children when delegated by the Kabaka, and guarding the Nnaabagereka (Queen), the Katikkiro (Prime Minister), the Bulange (Kingdom Parliament building) in Mengo, and other key cultural sites, such as the Royal Tombs, where the ceremonial royal drums are kept. The unit also provides security at all Buganda Kingdom events attended by key cultural leaders.
