Parents were reminded during this holiday period that raising and nurturing a child is a shared responsibility. They were urged to teach their children practical skills, support the development of their talents, and educate them about themselves—including their culture, language, and other important aspects of identity.
This message was delivered by Hon. Cholitilda Nakate Kikomeko at Bwebajja during the closing ceremony of the third term at Kids and Love Daycare and Kindergarten, where children showcased their talents and some of what they have learned this year.
“A child is raised by all of us, and we must work together in their upbringing. Teachers should fulfil their responsibilities, and parents must also play their role at home—teaching children practical skills, their language, culture, and moral values.” — Hon. Nakate
Hon. Nakate also emphasized the vital role teachers play in a child’s development, noting that every teacher who interacts with a child contributes something valuable from an early age. She further stated that the Kingdom has submitted several proposals to the government on education, with a focus on ensuring fair treatment of teachers in salaries and other benefits.
She thanked the teachers at Kids and Love Daycare and Kindergarten for their dedication over the past six years in preparing young learners and urged parents to avoid frequently moving their children between schools, as this disrupts learning.
The Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, one of the founders of the school, encouraged parents to guide their children responsibly:
“When a child misbehaves, you should correct and discipline them—not mistreat them. And when a child does something good, you should praise them and let them know they did well. This is how we properly raise a child.” — Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga
He also thanked the teachers for their hard work in teaching children, identifying their talents, and helping them develop. He urged parents to collaborate with teachers to prepare their children well for the future.
Ms. Margaret Mayiga, also a co-founder of the school, explained that the theme for this year’s event—“Shared Responsibility in Raising a Child”—was chosen to highlight the importance of everyone’s role in a child’s upbringing. She thanked parents who trust the school with their children and promised to continue providing quality education. She added that starting in the 2026 academic year, the school will introduce Primary Five (P5) and Primary Six (P6).
During the ceremony, children showcased their talents in singing, dancing, music, sports, drama, public speaking, and more.
