MENGO
The Speaker of the Council of Clan Heads (Abataka) in Buganda, Omutaka Namwama Augustine Kizito, has urged clan leaders to keep a close watch on descendants with specialized skills and involve them in the leadership and service of their respective clans.
He said this approach will help clans move with the times and enhance their development activities.
Background to the Appeal
Omutaka Namwama made these remarks during a meeting of senior clan leaders held at Bulange in Mengo.
According to the Speaker, the world has changed significantly, and today’s challenges require people with professional expertise in areas such as law, finance, construction, and technology.
“Our clans will rise to greater heights if we place our skilled descendants in positions where they can serve voluntarily while applying their professional knowledge.”
Introduction of New Clan Prime Ministers and Deputies
The meeting also served as a platform to introduce newly appointed Clan Prime Ministers (Bakatikkiro) and their deputies from various clans.
They were tasked with restoring unity among clan members and encouraging people to work hard toward self-development.
Clan leaders emphasized that strong clan leadership is the foundation of the Buganda Kingdom, noting that when clans are stable and united, it becomes easier for His Majesty the Kabaka to lead his people and uplift them from poverty.
Future Priorities
Key priorities outlined include:
- Rebuilding descendants’ attachment to their clans
- Promoting culture and traditions among the youth
- Using technology to preserve clan history and records
The newly appointed leaders were congratulated and urged to work closely with the Council of Clan Heads to ensure that the Kingdom’s development agenda reaches all people at the grassroots level within the clans.
