Residents of Buganda Kingdom counties Singo and Busiro trekked early in the morning to bring Amakula to Bulange Mengo.
Amakula are traditional gifts which Baganda take to the Kabaka as a way to support feeding in the palaces of the Kabaka.
Those who brought Amakula were from Mutuba gumu, Kiziba Masuulita in Busiro county and Mutuba munaana Kikandwa from Singo county.
Amongst the people that came to bring Amakula was Ms Mary Theresa Nakate from Busiro county who gifted the Kabaka with a portrait of his dad Sir Edward Muteesa II that she had kept for a long time waiting for an opportunity to bring it to the Kabaka herself.
Ms Nakate narrated that she suffered a lot holding onto the portrait during Obote’s regime as one would be beaten if found with Kabaka Muteesa II’s portrait. She buried it in the ground for a long while to avoid Obote’s soldiers finding her with it.
Dr Prosperous Nankindu Kavuma, minister of Education in Buganda Kingdom while addressing the residents, urged parents to educate their children as this was important to give them a bright future. She also stated that bringing amakula is important for the Buganda Kingdom culture because in giving, there is celebration, especially in the year of the jubilee.
The delivering of Amakula is done by every county in Buganda on a yearly basis.
