Buganda partners with Guoji Corporation to build affordable houses

Buganda Kingdom through Buganda Land Board, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Guoji Corporation, a Chinese construction Company to build affordable houses at Ssentema Busiro for low income earners. The Chinese delegation was led by the President of the Guoji Corporation, Mr Li Gang.

The plan includes building a trading and industrial city that will commence with the construction of modern residential houses.

While witnessing the signing ceremony, Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga urged the people of Buganda to utilize this chance to get good houses which are within their income range. The Katikkiro noted that many people lacked good housing and stated that there will be various forms of payments for the new developments to make them affordable.

He however assured the squatters on Kabaka land of their safety as there was no one who was to be evicted contrary to rumours that had been spread. The Katikiro said "Buganda has a big chunk of land which is free of squatters where the project is going to be established".

The project will commence next year and Mr. Li Gang assured the Kingdom that by the end of 2019 the first phase will be complete. The CEO of Buganda Land Board, Kyewalabye Male signed the agreement on behalf of the Kingdom whereas Mrs Wendy signed on behalf of Guoji corporation.

In the past while commissioning the Kigo housing project, Kabaka Mutebi had asked for housing plans to be made for his subjects with lower income.
