The Buganda Katikkiro was opening the summit officially

The first day of the 2024 Kingdom Leaders Summit has concluded. The two-day conference, held at Muteesa I Royal University in Kakeeka Mmengo, will conclude on March 26, 2024.

Summarising today's discussions, Katikkiro addressed various topics, including health and culture. He emphasised that parents are often the main contributors to issues in cultural ceremonies, particularly introduction ceremonies, by permitting inappropriate practices such as allowing the bride and groom to change clothes or dance at the introduction, and by demanding excessive items from the bridegroom, despite their unavailability.

The Katikkiro remarked that at times, parents act as lowly commoners, expecting the groom's family to undertake home construction or repairs before the ceremony. He emphasized that in such instances, parents lack grounds to address improprieties during these ceremonies, as they have already received gifts or payments, leading them to remain silent.

Closing the first day, he urged leaders to prioritise health by monitoring their diet and engaging in regular exercise, and encouraged them to promote this message among their constituents.

Discussions on health and culture were led by the respective Ministers, Hon. Choltilda Nakate Kikomeko for Health, and Hon. Dr. Anthony Wamala for Culture, Traditional Affairs, and Tourism.
