In a document published by His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, it has been confirmed that President Museveni has approved the awarding of a charter to Muteesa I Royal University.

He has directed the National Council for Higher Education to make final arrangements to issue a letter of confirmation for the charter.
The university charter is the highest document issued by the National Council for Higher Education to a qualified university. According to the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, the Charter provides proof that the institution meets all the requirements for university education and is on par with government universities.
