The Katikkiro greets Gabunga Omubbulukuse
Gabunga Omubbulukuse, Mubiru Zziikwa V has been formally introduced to Katikkiro, Charles Peter Mayiga, who urged members of the Emmamba clan to support their heritage and work toward preserving and promoting their cultural traditions.
Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga congratulated the new clan leader, Gabunga Mubiru Ali Zziikwa (Gabunga Omubbulukuse), on succeeding his late father, Gabunga Omubuze. He urged clan members to focus on their ancestral roots to strengthen their heritage and influence.
The event took place at Bulange, Mmengo, on Monday. Katikkiro Mayiga emphasized that the authority of a clan head in Buganda stems from the Ssaabataka (the Kabaka). He assured the attendees that Gabunga Omubbulukuse would soon be introduced to the Kabaka in an official ceremony.
“The authority of a clan head in Buganda comes from the Ssaabataka. I will introduce Gabunga Omubbulukuse to His Majesty the Kabaka soon. I urge you to unite your clan members, develop the clan, and uphold the principles of Maasomoogi,” he said.
Katikkiro. Mayiga further called on sub-clan leaders and family heads to support Gabunga Omubbulukuse, emphasizing the need to follow Buganda’s traditions, which serve as the foundation of the kingdom’s leadership.
He noted that ancestral roots are vital for fostering unity among clans and ensuring Buganda's strength in history. 'Clans are essential at all times—whether in marriage ceremonies, funerals, or other cultural events. I urge you to strengthen the role of clans, especially through ancestral roots, as they form the foundation of a Muganda's identity,' he added.
Katikkiro. Mayiga encouraged the new Gabunga and clan leaders to establish economic initiatives that include youth, enabling them to contribute to the clan's development while also gaining employment opportunities.
He highlighted the importance of utilizing social media to promote clan activities and manage clan land. He also called for unity among clans, which he said would elevate Buganda to greater heights.
Gerald Kyobe, the Katikkiro of the Emmamba clan, affirmed that all preparations were done with dignity and precision to honor the significance of the ceremony.
Dr. Anthony Wamala, the Minister for Culture and Traditions, emphasized the need to document clan-related activities and educate people on the customs surrounding inheritance and the responsibilities of clan leaders. He appreciated the leadership of Katikkiro Lutuuma, who oversaw the planning process.
Katikkiro Lutuuma explained that the late Gabunga Omubuze would be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Ssagala Buwaya. He outlined the schedule: on Tuesday morning, prayers would be held at Jjungo Church, followed by an overnight stay at Sagala Buwaya, and the final burial ceremony would take place on Wednesday at 2 PM.
Gabunga Omubbulukuse is the son of the late Gabunga Omubuze Mubiru Zziikwa IV. Mubiru Ali Zziikwa becomes the 38th Gabunga in the history of the Emmamba clan. Gabunga Omubuze will be buried on Wednesday at his ancestral home in Ssagala Buwaya.
