Nnaabagereka Sylvia Nagginda launched a campaign aimed at promoting the principles of Obuntubulamu (humanity) across Uganda.
The event took place at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala, where she emphasised that the initiative is intended to foster positive values in young people and all citizens, regardless of tribe or background.
She called on everyone to support and embrace the campaign, as it will be implemented across the country.
The campaign seeks to address and eliminate social evils such as corruption, theft, smuggling, dishonesty, violence, domestic conflict, environmental destruction, and other negative behaviours.
The initiative will be carried out through the Nnaabagereka Development Foundation, with the central government pledging its support to ensure its success.
In a message from Vice President Retired Maj. Jesca Alupo, delivered by the Minister of Public Service, Gender, and Social Development, Betty Amongi, the government noted that many of the nation’s current challenges—such as theft, corruption, smuggling, and violence—are a result of the erosion of humanity (Obuntubulamu) in society.
The event was attended by many dignitaries
The event was attended by many dignitaries, including the Minister of State for Technology and ICT, Hon. Joyce Nabbosa Ssebuggwawo, and the Third Deputy Prime Minister of the Japadhola, Ursher Wilson Owere, who is responsible for areas like Wakiso, Entebbe, Mukono, and other parts of Buganda.
Owere affirmed that as cultural leaders, they are dedicated to spreading the values of Obuntubulamu.
Representing the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Uganda, Nwanne Vwede Obahor pledged UNDP’s collaboration with the Nnaabagereka to ensure that the campaign reaches all corners of the country and beyond.
Obuntubulamu is defined by values such as honesty, humility, cleanliness, truthfulness, responsibility, selflessness, and more, all of which contribute to the essence of humanity.
