Katikkiro welcomes new head of Kiwere Clan alongside other leaders
Omutaka Alexander Basajjabaka Sserwadda, son of the late Omutaka James Mbaale Zzamuwanga, Luwonko, has been officially presented to the Katikkiro and Buganda as the new clan leader, taking over from his father.
Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga stated that according to Buganda's traditions, when a clan leader passes away, a successor must be appointed to maintain the continuity of the clan.
He emphasised that this process is carried out according to the established lineage and customs of the clan. He expressed gratitude to everyone involved in organising the appointment of the new Omutaka Luwonko and those working on the burial arrangements for the late Luwonko.
Katikkiro entrusted the new Omutaka with the responsibility of uniting his clan members and ensuring they follow the guidance of His Majesty, the Kabaka.
He also urged him to focus on developing the clan's leadership and implementing initiatives that would benefit the clan members and aid in managing its affairs.

Katikkiro Mayiga expressed his satisfaction at seeing the new Omutaka, a young man, presented, and encouraged him to use his youthful energy to build strong leadership within the clan and increase its prominence.
Owek. Choltilda Nakate Kikomeko, on behalf of the Minister of Culture and Traditions, acknowledged that it took some time to identify the new clan leader due to the complexities of following cultural norms.
She called upon leaders from other clans to ensure proper documentation of their clan histories, as this will be vital for future generations and strengthen clan matters.
The arrangements for the burial of the late Omutaka James Mbaale Zzamuwanga are ongoing. A memorial service will be held tomorrow at St. Gideon Church in Kigombya, Mukono, followed by his burial at the clan's ancestral grounds in Kasiiniina, Ssingo, on Wednesday the 25th, where he will be laid to rest in the forest.
