The Buganda Kingdom is mourning the passing of Hon. Joyce Mpanga, a revered figure who recently died at the age of 90. Her extensive contributions and roles within the Buganda Assembly have left an indelible mark on the Kingdom.
As the mother of Minister Oweek David Mpanga, her influence extended throughout Buganda. Joyce Mpanga's multifaceted career commenced in 1958 as a teacher at Makerere College School. She became the deputy headmistress at Gayaza High School and held leadership positions within the Uganda National Teachers Union. Her foray into politics saw her serving as a legislator, cabinet minister, and a member of the Buganda Lukiiko.
Her passing was confirmed by Buganda Kingdom spokesperson Israel Kazibwe, marking the end of a significant era. Tributes are pouring in, highlighting her groundbreaking achievements and the profound impact she made on Buganda society.
To coordinate her funeral, Mr. Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, Second Deputy Katikkiro, has appointed a special committee led by Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule, with Ahmed Lwasa and Israel Kazibwe Kitooke as additional leaders.
