Katikkiro Mayiga spoke about measures to address the high suicide rate among men, which he said is often caused by keeping problems silent, leading to mental health challenges.
"Many times we men are raised to be strong and brave, but we face challenges at work and at home. We inherit the culture of not expressing our problems; a man is told not to cry, not to fight, and not to confront women. By acknowledging and addressing our issues, we can prevent mental health problems," Katikkiro Mayiga said.
He thanked the Central Bank of Uganda for organizing discussions on this critical issue, emphasizing that awareness and guidance for men on dealing with personal challenges will help reduce the suicide rate caused by excessive stress and silence.
