The Katikkiro in Mawokota at the funeral rites of the late Catherine Nakyejwe Mulindwa
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has urged the people of Buganda to refrain from prolonged mourning, even after losing their loved ones, to enable them to focus on moving forward.
This message was delivered in Mawokota during the funeral rites of the late Catherine Nakyejwe Mulindwa, mother to Lawrence Mulindwa, founder of St. Mary’s Kitende and Vipers Sports Club.
Katikkiro emphasized,
"Our forefathers recognized the importance of moving past grief with purpose. This is why we uphold the tradition of final funeral rites to bring closure and restore normalcy. In our collective effort to restore Buganda’s glory, we strongly discourage prolonged mourning, as it can hinder individual and community progress."
He further added that the institution of the Kabaka ensures unity and stability, and with the presence of the Kabaka, the people of Buganda have no reason to succumb to despair.

During the event, Margaret Nannono was appointed as the successor of the late Catherine Nakyejwe Mulindwa, and Noeline Luyiga was named the family’s Lubuga.
The Mawokota County Chief, Kayima Sarah Nannono, assured the Katikkiro that the ceremony adhered to all cultural protocols and traditions of Buganda.
Omutaka Muteesaasira Keeya Ttendo Namuyimba took the opportunity to call on the Katikkiro and the people of Buganda to take a firm stand against those who degrade the Luganda language, particularly musicians using vulgar language.
He stated, "This is the time to address this issue with a firm hand."
The ceremony was attended by various dignitaries from Buganda Kingdom and the central government.
