Katikkiro installing the new Kabaka’s chief
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, launched the "Buganda Bumu" convention in South Africa, an initiative focused on uniting the Kabaka’s subjects living in those regions.
At this event, the Katikkiro formally installed and swore in Kabaka’s Chiefs and their deputies, including Owek. Denis Lugolobi of the Western Cape County and Owek. Dr. Sam Ssemugabi Bakyayita of Johannesburg County, as well as the committees that will assist them.
During his address, Katikkiro emphasised Buganda’s desire to see its people grow stronger through collaboration. He encouraged the chiefs to continue strengthening Buganda’s culture and heritage, even while living abroad, and to serve Ssaabasajja’s people (Maasomoogi) with courage and dedication.

In his address, Katikkiro highlighted Buganda's commitment to empowering its people by fostering cooperation, strengthening Buganda's cultural heritage and traditions, and serving Kabaka’s subjects with dedication, even while residing in other nations.
Minister Joseph Kawuki advised participants to be vigilant in protecting Buganda's values and identity.
While guiding the newly appointed chiefs and attendees of the Southern Africa convention in Cape Town, he noted that many who observe Buganda's ongoing initiatives often aim to discredit the kingdom with baseless rumours.
He laughed off such critics, remarking that opportunity favours the prepared. He pointed out that the large turnout at this convention is a clear sign of Buganda’s resilience.

He urged attendees to get involved in future conventions, share updates with those who couldn’t attend, and ensure they do not miss out next time.
Minister Kawuki concluded by urging leaders to maintain effective communication and adhere to the guidelines from Mengo. He encouraged everyone to engage with the Kabaka's representatives appointed to their positions with humility and respect.
